The Phenomenon Of Online Gambling Addiction In Society: Identifying Causes And Alternative Solutions

This study aims to describe the phenomenon of online gambling, which has become increasingly prevalent in both urban and rural communities. The research focuses on the issue of online gambling addiction in Ngantru-Tulungagung District. Additionally, it seeks to identify the factors contributing to online gambling addiction and propose alternative solutions to help individuals overcome it. The study employs a qualitative descriptive phenomenological approach to gain a deeper understanding of the phenomenon. Respondents included four individuals currently addicted to online gambling and four individuals who successfully quit within the past six months. Data were collected through observations and interviews with respondents and community members familiar with online gambling. The findings reveal that online gambling addiction has become widespread, affecting individuals across various age groups. Contributing factors include environmental influences, easy accessibility to online gambling platforms, emotional and psychological triggers, economic pressures, and situational factors. Alternative solutions include strengthening personal determination to quit, improving self-control, blocking gambling websites, avoiding toxic environments, shifting mindsets, and engaging in new hobbies and activities.
