Stigma Towards The Agricultural Profession Among Young People In Rural Communities: Phenomenological Study In Kreadenan Rejo Lamongan Village

Abstrak

The agricultural profession, which has traditionally been the backbone of rural economies in Indonesia, now faces new challenges in the form of negative stigma among young people. Many teenagers in villages prefer to work in cities rather than continue their family farming business, citing that farming is perceived as an unprestigious, low-income, and physically demanding profession. This article aims to explore the factors causing the emergence of this stigma, how these perceptions develop, and their impact on the sustainability of the agricultural sector in rural areas. This research employs a qualitative approach using interviews and observations with young people in a rural community. The results show that social roles, education, and the influence of globalization contribute to reinforcing negative perceptions of the agricultural profession. To overcome this stigma, collective efforts involving education, government, and modern technology are needed to enhance the image of farming as a viable and potentially profitable profession.
